I was doing some research on why business people who read more, earn more. So I started with a Google of the term “people who read earn more.” Look at some of the titles that came up:

Music lessons pay off in higher earnings

Do pretty people earn more?

Tall people earn more

Drinkers earn more than non-drinkers

Black women earn more than white women

I still haven’t found why readers earn more than non-readers, but I have arrived at a conclusion….All types of people earn more than all kinds of other people.

<a href="http://www.nytimes.com/2004/10/03/jobs/03BLOG.html?pagewanted=1" target="_blank" title="The New York Times > Job Market > Before Applying, Check Out the Blogs”>Before Applying, Check Out the Blogs is an interesting article in the NY Times (free registration required). Needing to check out the company culture, job applicants are visiting blogs run by employees to get a feel for the place, or even just to find job openings.

Five years ago, few people had heard of blogs — online journals that are commonly used to chronicle the lives and opinions of their authors. Now, more than two million Americans are blogging, according to a study by the Pew Internet and American Life Project — and blogging is spreading in the job market, said hiring managers and experts who study blogging.

Corporate recruiters use blogs to draw in qualified candidates, and they search for potential hires by reading bloggers who write about topics relevant to a particular industry.

After receiving an application, the recruiters Google the name and see what comes up. If they find the applicant has a blog, they check it out to learn more about them. Just another reason to blog!
